Perhaps not the end of an era, considering the death of the Icon may come any time before or after the trends... but there is no doubt that his legacy is a lasting one.
I remember for years I wanted to have a YSL cocktail dress or coat because he so reliably epitomized elegance, sophistication and glamour so well, and so much better than many others. I owned a Christian Dior coat, which my mommy bought me from I. Magnin when i was 5--it was quite lovely. I believe that was right at the start of Gianfranco Ferre's helm.
And of some comparatively slightly lower orders but still quite high style stratifications, I had that pair of Halston sun glasses, and a pair of Chloe that unfortunately did not suit my face well and I have also now lost them, and unfortunately they were post-1997 which means they are NOT from when Karl Lagerfeld ran Chloe but rather Stella McCartney or Phoebe Philo (not bad, just not as good). I have that pink Omega watch, a Theory and some Elie Tahari and Laundry/Shelli Segal. Not to forget the Fendi, Gucci and Pollini purses and briefcase that Joanne gave me. Really quite nice things, but none that rang like an YSL.
So much that high fashion owes to YSL! And the gratitude to Christian Dior (the MAN, not Corporate--they betrayed YSL when he was enlisted, altho that didn't stop him!! but I forgive them considering they redeemed themselves several times over by upholding fashion integrity over the years) for blossoming him.

and for a bullet description of his work: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituar ies/2063264/Yves-Saint-Laurent.html
In spare time I shall have to look more into Lagerfeld, Balenciaga, and Tom Ford (as TF, not as YSL). <3

I just found an old, chain email joke from Nancy several years ago. I LOVE IT:
-->
For all those men who say, Why buy a cow when you can get milk for free. Here's an update for you: Nowadays, 80% of women are against marriage, WHY? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage.
Men are like....
1. Men are like Laxatives .... They irritate the crap out of you.
2. Men are like Bananas .... The older they get, the less firm they are.
3. Men are like Weather .... Nothing can be done to change them.
4. Men are like Blenders .... You need One, but you're not quite sure why.
5. Men are like Chocolate Bars .... Sweet, smooth, & they usually head right for your hips.
6. Men are like Commercials .... You can't believe a word they say.
7. Men are like Department Stores .... Their clothes are always 1/2 off.
8. Men are like Government Bonds .... They take soooooooo long to mature.
9. Men are like Mascara .... They usually run at the first sign of emotion.
10. Men are like Popcorn .... They satisfy you, but only for a little while.
11. Men are like Snowstorms .... You never know when they're coming, how many inches you'll get or how long it will last.
12. Men are like Lava Lamps .... Fun to look at, but not very bright.
13. Men are like Parking Spots .....All the good ones are taken, the rest are handicapped.
buahahaha

1. I totally rocked @ case conference today. Despite some mistakes. People were moved. Also I apparently still have impressively excellent command of language, according to Ellen, despite my own inadequacy complex leading me to feel like an inarticulate, bumbling bastard. It means a lot when Phil Erdberg compliments your case formulation and treatment to be 'a very comprehensive and sophisticated understanding' Phil Erdberg guys! SCORE. I told Karen today that if she ever gets nervous during presentation, look at Irving. he's very affirming. :) Most people are, but he especially.
2. Accompanied Karen along w Diana and Robin to Diana's family friend's dressmaking shop for Karen to find a traditional qi pao for her wedding in July. Fun stuff!
3. Chris commuted an hour by bart/muni to come have dinner w me in the city when he found out last night that I was free tonight. Pretty damn cool. We stuffed ourselves and then walked it off throughout the castro. Lot of banana hammocks and softball sized packages on glitzy mannequins.
goodnight!

Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure exactly where all the responses are coming from, but I am VERY GRATEFUL for all of the input I've received for my study so far. Seeing anything show up at all is very encouraging, and that encouragement is something I am very much in need for during this process.
It has been a very stressful and oppressive experience for me and it is fantastic that things are finally starting to come together.
I want to thank all of you who looked at, thought about, filled out, and/or referred my study. I know the participants are coming from somewhere, and I have no doubt that someone who is reading this message helped out in some way.
I know there are plenty of respondents from various other flyering and recruitment methods, but this is one of the few arenas in which I can actually thank those who were referred through here, so THANK YOU.
Thank you, whoever you all are!!
Best,
Gloria

Hi Guys, this is super easy and it would mean a lot to me if you could help me out.
I’m looking for participants over the age of 18 for a study on cultural factors’ influence on response to stressful experiences. There will be a short background questionnaire followed by multiple choice questions that ask you about some stressful events in your life and how you feel lately, either regarding one of those events or just in general. The entire survey takes about half an hour to complete.
Your responses will not be traced back to you for your protection. Participants will be entered to win a prize in gratitude of your time upon completion of the study.
Please go to stressresponse.sacreativesolutions.com to participate!
Questions? Direct comments and inquiries to Gloria Lee, PhD student at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University at stressresponse@sacreativesolutions.com

I haven't had nosebleeds in YEARS, and then all of a sudden I had three within two days.
Karen mentioned that the weather was changing a lot those two days, and it makes a lot of ppl get bloody nose. I also just got back from skiing in Tahoe when I hadn't gone in many years, and the different physical activity in the different climate and air pressure may have contributed to my body's instability in adjustment.
All that plus being emotionally encumbered, of course.

red meat is bad for me (in the long run) but god i love it!
:D
Oh, and as much as I HATEHATEHATE riding the bus because it takes me at least an hour to recover from the motion sickness once I get off, I do like the fact that I at least have to walk 8 blocks whenever I go to work. yay forced "exercise". It's too bad I have to be wearing my stiff preppy work clothes and shoes and carrying that damned heavy laptop.
But overall practicum is very good, despite the craziness at the clinic.
GUYS I'M DOING THERAPY IT'S SO COOL (and really freakin scary). but I did super awesome today! it's so weird.
in other business, good makeup and lighting make me look glamorous. Dramatic photos are fun. So are pinups. but i don't have the waist-hip ratio for that, so I'll just review my old calendar =^.^=

i'm going grocery shopping at Lucky's.
It makes me happy to think about Lucky's, as we used to go there all the time and it is a landmark of my childhood.
We adopted little chicks from those bushes near its parking lot...one of them flew away/got eaten by a cat after my dad fumbled in his "caretaking" and the other yellow-white chick pooped on his shoulder after he tried to feed it lettuce and CHICKEN (why would you feed chicken to a chicken?!?!?). I remember our adorable doggie Darth sniffing the chick as they both walked around the kitchen and I kept getting worried that Darth would step on the chick.
I also remember when i was three or four and waiting for my dad to finish talking to some person outside Lucky's and i was bored and restless but instead of carrying me or even holding my hand he had me sit on the curb and wait (dangerous place to sit) and then an old lady ran her shopping cart into me and I screamed and cried for my Ma when my left ring finger was torn and bloody because her cart rolled over it.
of course, my dad always had trouble when I cried..
but anyway, I like Lucky. I'm rather attached to it, considering it is just a store...And I'm not even a baby boomer.
Here are some others they should bring back: Gemco, instead of lame-ass Target. Target gets too much hype. their stuff isn't even that great...it's inexpensive enough, but the quality tells me it should be even LESS expesive.
Alpha Beta. That place has strong association with Ma. THat may be the only reason I like it. I really don't remember anything about it.
I only like Gemco and Alpha Beta because my mother did.
And that is good enough a reason.

long day.
Friday was an awful, stressful and unhappy day after an awful, stressful and unhappy week.
Then I was given two dozen roses, strapped into my helmet and ridden to the Civic auditorium to see the Smashing Pumpkins.

I didn't have to wait in line, didn't have any trouble wiggling to the third row front and center, and waited for the band to come out. I met a lot of really nice people while waiting and we chatted to pass the time. I miss that fan cohort.. strange how we all grew up..there weren't many new fans, i gather...I don't think that they're as likely to show up at these residency shows, especially not this early in the revival. It'd probably take longer before the new fans join us in concert ;)
We were all excited and restless with anticipation when some silly emo-angsty poster band named War Tapes came on.
( click here for an articulate bashing of this pathetic excuse for an SP opening act )
Of course, it wasn't a total loss, because when one of us was fed up enough to respond to the "We are War Tapes" with " How about War-get-off-the-stage??" they mustered enough passion and agression to ACT murderous and energetic in their very last song, and surprisingly redeemed themselves by closing with a semi-decent performance.
And with their retreat to the backstage, we shook ourselves of the disgust and ingratitude of their performance and prepared ourselves for the show we'd been waiting seven years to see.

Here is the setlist from the Santa Cruz show:
United States
Bleeding the Orchid
Today
Starz
Zero
Drown
Hummer
Doomsday Clock
Lucky 13
Starla
Thirty-Three
Rocket
To Sheila
Tonight Tonight
Tarantula
Stand Inside Your Love
Disarm
1979
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
That's the Way (My Love Is)
Heavy Metal Machine
Encore 1 :
Cherub Rock
Encore 2 :
Death from Above
Gossamer
Notes:
My favorites were the oldies :D The latest version of Bullet was nice, though I listened to that from the restroom :-/. 1979 of course was well received, Today brought craziness and lots of singalong. I got a VIDEO of 33! Surprised that they played Starla...wasn't expecting much from Pisces. happy~!
The crowd was rather tame, mostly out of respect for billy's frequent reminders to love thy neighbor and for our longstanding SP and pumpkins fans' policy of NO MOSHING at concerts because its not worth the risk and injury.
Still, it was quite sweaty, and the bottles of water being passed around weren't enough...
I held out ok until the end of Tonight, Tonight, when suddenly my abdomen and uterous decided to both scream at me for having stood up in uncomfortable footwear, dreadful heat and dehydration for FOUR HOURS without ever sitting down to rest, and i cramped like there was no tomorrow. I rested on Scott during for a few minutes until a channel opened up and people pushed me towards the railing. "Air!!" I cried! Then a security guard leaned over the barricade and picked me up like a sack of potatoes, and for a moment I was shoulder height from Billy. Unfortunately, security man turned around and carried me out to the hallway, promptly destroying my glee over the cool breeze and proximity to the stage.
Well, i've had my days in the sun, and now I'm older and there are more important things to worry about during concerts, such as personal safety and well-being. So I sat out in the seating area, railing, or off to the side and watched the organism of floor-kids bounce to the music...and remember how I used to love being part of that, but I've grown up enough to know that I can LIVE the concert just as much in quieter areas.
Pictures should be posted in the next few days... <3
